Sixty five fire departments from Morris County and around New Jersey participated in the 117th annual Boonton Fire Dept Firemen's Labor Day Parade on 8/30/08. Boonton's horse-drawn Maxfield steam engine, which dates back to the 1800s, was proudly reintroduced to the parade this year. Boonton fire Chief George Westenberger III stated that their department currently consists of 170 volunteer members. The Grand Marshall of the parade this year was veteran firefighter, Gabriel Bonanni, who has served 53 years with the Boonton Volunteer Fire Department.
