On 10/12/08 the Jefferson Township Rescue Squad was dispatched for an unconscious victim of a two story fall. A Jefferson Township resident had fallen from a ladder while painting his home. A request for a medical helicopter to be placed on standby was immediately made by responding units. Once on scene, First Responders assessing the patient confirmed the need for the helicopter to be sent to a nearby landing zone and Jefferson Township Fire Company # 2 was dispatched to prepare this location. The trauma patient was stabilized and quickly transported by Jefferson Rescue to the landing zone set up at Briggs Elementary school. Atlantic Air One medevac helicopter arrived to the scene within minutes. The patient was loaded into the helicopter and flown to a nearby trauma center. Atlantic Health's Air ambulance is staffed by a crew that includes five full-time flight paramedics, five full-time flight nurses and several other part time medical staffers. The air ship is based out of Netcong, giving it quick access to patients in Morris and Sussex counties.
